Then, when all things are under his authority, the Son will put himself under God’s authority, so that God, who gave his Son authority over all things, will be utterly supreme over everything everywhere.

1 Corinthians 15:28

“Then…God…will be utterly supreme over everything everywhere.” (1 Corinthians 15:28)

Have you heard the true story of Chippie the Parakeet?

Chippie’s owner decided to clean his cage using a headless vacuum cleaner tube, but when the phone rang, she turned to answer it and inadvertently sucked Chippie in! Relieved to find Chippie still alive when she opened the cleaner bag, but now filthy and covered in dust, she plunged him under a cold water tap at maximum speed, to rinse him off. Extremely wet and bedraggled, Chippie’s feathers were then restored – by the full force of a hair drier! Commenting on how Chippie was following his ordeal, his owner said, “Well, he doesn’t sing anymore. He just sits and stares!”

As Max Lucado tells the story, Chippie was sucked in, washed up and blown over!

We can all relate to what Lucado is saying. Things happen to us in life which leave us feeling as if we have been sucked in, washed up and blown over.

You might be feeling the weight of things today.

You have discovered someone you trusted has been lying and gossiping about you behind your back, and you feel as if you have been sucked in.

You have been told after 40 years with the same company that you are no longer required or that your spouse is trading you in for a younger model and it leaves you feeling washed up.

And you have been completely blown over by your 15 year old daughter’s news she is pregnant to a boy from school.

With so much emotional, physical and personal pain in the world, it can feel at times as if everything and everyone is completely against us.

Where can we find hope for us…and the world?

Today’s verse is the place to start! It reminds us that despite the problems we are confronted with as individuals or on a world scale, one day “God will be utterly supreme over everything everywhere!”

This is the overarching, grand theme of the Bible – God wins!

No matter what problem you face or what the world throws up at you; no matter how much our world defies God and tries to push Him out of the picture – He wins!

He will reign forever.

And if you have put your faith and trust in His Son, Jesus, you are on the winning side.

God wins…and so will you!
