Based on research it’s been estimated that anywhere between 50% to 90% of physical illness is psychosomatic.

Put simply, this means whatever stresses or worries you are carrying in your head do have a direct impact on your physical health. Many illnesses such as heart disease and cancer have been directly linked to what is eating a person up inside.

When Jesus said, “Don’t worry about everyday life, can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” He knew what He was talking about!

Unfortunately, many have interpreted His words as saying that all you have to do is “give your worries to God and then He will carry them for you – you won’t have a single care in the world!”

This has not been my experience, nor do I believe it is what Jesus meant when He told us not to worry.

Recently I have had some worries in my own life and those who have been aware of my situation have been kind enough to ask me at times how am I going. My reply has been honest – “The situation is in the back of my mind, but I have the Lord’s peace.”

This is what I have learned about worry and giving it to God, whether it be current or past circumstances – when you are anxious, give the burden to God again…and again…and again.

Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you.” It doesn’t say, “Give God your burden and you will never have another worry.” What David tells us is God will give us the strength we need to carry the burden because He will carry it with us, usually in the experience of His peace.

Are you carrying a worry right now? I’m sure you are!

Then tell God about it, receive His strength, and experience His peace.

And if the worry returns – it most likely will – then don’t think you’re a failure, simply give the burden to God again and once more receive His strength and peace.

Tell God your worries again…and again…and again…because you are so valuable to Him!
