Passage: John 20:6-10
Is Theism – the belief that God exists, He made us, and He has shown us what is right and wrong – true?
As you think about this, I ask you to consider the following.
The world and Universe in which we live gives powerful evidence for a Creator.
The Apostle Paul argued for this two thousand years ago when he wrote, “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature.” (Romans 1:20)
When you admire a beautiful piece of artwork or enjoy a sumptuous meal, do you think they were the product of random chance? Of course not! You praise the artist of congratulate the chef for what they have created. Why then, when gazing on a beautiful sunset or taking in a spectacular mountain view do some of us think, “This all just came about by accident?”
There is evidence for a Creator all around us and with evidence like that, we have no excuse to deny His existence! (See again Romans 1:20)
The fact that evil exists in the world doesn’t mean God isn’t real.
The usual way people express this is by saying, “If God really is All-Powerful and All-Loving, then why does He allow evil to exist?”
This is a genuine problem, but we must remember God made us with a free will. He placed humans in the Garden with the commandment to “not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” (Genesis 2:17)
It was a test of love.
Would we freely choose obedience to God and love for Him, or would we choose our own way? He could have made us robots – but that would not be love. Do you want someone to love you because they are programmed to love you, or because they have freely chosen to?
Tragically, humanity’s wrong choice brought evil and suffering into God’s good world.
But it wasn’t the end of the story.
God had an amazing plan to reveal to us…
What do you think about the statement, “The world and Universe in which we live gives powerful evidence for a Creator?”
